Holiness

“We must continually remind ourselves of the purpose of life. We are not destined to happiness, nor to health, but to holiness….God has only one intended destiny for mankind—holiness. His only goal is to produce saints. God is not some eternal blessing-machine for people to use, and He did not come to save us out of pity–He came to save us because He created us to be holy.” -Oswald Chambers

Joel and I just had a late night conversation along these lines. Especially the part "God is not some eternal blessing machine for people to use". It's funny that sometimes we feel like if we don't get the blessing we pleaded for, it's because we didn't have enough faith, say enough prayers, or DO enough righteousness. That's so shallow when you stop and think about it. If that was the case, it would make life a contest to obey the most commandments so you could reap the most blessings. It obviously doesn't work that way. :-) Some of the most Godly, righteous people I've met have been the ones who've suffered terrible heartaches, trials and setbacks in their life. How else can we have our rough edges smoothed, our hearts softened, and learn sympathy, compassion, endurance, and grow in faith, unless we go through trials that we would never fathom asking for.
Thanks so much for posting this.
